Hello everyone and thank you for stopping by. I’m Adriana, a Romanian living in London , UK .
I spent over 30 years of my life living in a big lie – that we need animals in order to survive. Contrary to what we grow to believe, animal products are not healthy, animal research is not relevant for humans, animal entertainment is not funny, animals are intelligent and feel pain every bit as much as we do. We don’t own any sentient beings and should therefore respect their right to life and freedom.
I learnt the truth in 2009 thanks to a very graphic video on fur farming which led me to research further and find out the many forms that animal cruelty takes in our lives. I chose to make a difference for the animals and for myself by:
- switching to a plant-based diet
- buying clothes and shoes that are free from leather, fur, wool and silk
- boycotting circuses, zoos, rodeos, races, aquariums and any other form of entertainment using animals
- opposing animal testing for medical research, cosmetics, toiletries and household products
- rejecting any other form of oppression against animals, including the humane treatment of farmed animals which only reduces their suffering instead of ending it
- advocating animal rights any way I can.
Why Vegan Magic?
I believe in paying it forward. Thanks to many people who shared their knowledge and recipes online, I was able to become more health-conscious, broaden my vegan cooking experience and taste dishes that wouldn’t even cross my mind otherwise. I find great comfort and peace in cooking and constantly experiment with food. I would like to show you that you don’t need to be a chef to prepare amazing dishes. Cooking should be fun. Therefore cruelty has no place in the kitchen.
After two years of making and collecting amazing recipes and learning a bit about food blogging, I was finally able to create Vegan Magic in July 2011. Whether you are vegan or not, I hope you will find recipes on my blog that will inspire you and keep you coming back for more.
Aside from cooking, I am passionate about music, travelling, flying, trekking, learning new languages, discovering new places and experiencing different cultures, traditions and cuisines. I’m attracted to history, old castles, monasteries, ruins, mountains, mystery and the full moon.
Before you check out my recipes, please keep in mind that I am not a nutritionist, nor a doctor. I don’t have the expertise to calculate nutritional values of raw food, let alone cooked. Nutritional values are relative and depend highly on how much the food is processed, on heat, the reactions between nutrients and so on. In some posts I do write about the health benefits of certain foods I use, those are things that I myself consider when preparing a dish. Please refer to my notes as mere guidelines; these are just things I’ve learned over time from what I’ve read and from my own experience.
You are welcome to ask more about me or veganism by using the Contact form.
All that being said, let’s talk food!
